PROJECT PAN IDEAS

Recently, I was redoing a bit of my makeup inventory and my project pan plans (because they're both in the same document), and I realized I needed to update some project pan ideas, but Google wasn't helpful. The kind of thing I was looking for was something that could be a specifically timed thing - Eight by Easter, Nine by New Years, things like that - but would help me work through a substantial number of products. This is my first year doing project pans, and I need some sort of reference sheet that may get updated later.
If, like me, you're stumped as to the timeline of your next project pan, I'm here to help! Continue reading if you need help coming up with your next project pan deadline.

In terms of project pans, there's a basic way you can try it out: a project on your own timeline, like I did for my Project 10-pan. You can do it two ways: one way, you just pick out a few products you want to use up and set a deadline for them. The other, if you need more ideas, is to do a project pan roulette. Check out more ideas for a project pan roulette here.

Projects with Pre-Set Deadlines

Four by February 14th
TIMELINE: January 1 - February 14
This project is good if you need to get a few things out of your collection with a bit of effort.

8 by Easter
TIMELINE: January 1 - Easter (varies)
This is better for a longer timeline or if you have more items you need to get out of your collection.

(Finish) Six (or Seven) by Spring
TIMELINE: January 1 - March 20
Similar to the Six/Seven by Summer project, described below, there are two ways to go about this project pan. One is to choose items about this project pan. One is to choose the items based around the expiration date/ in a roulette style; the other is to choose items to finish up in the almost-three-month time frame.

May The Pan Be With You
TIMELINE: February 3 - May 4
This is something I've found on reddit - here is a link to the original post, which has a bit more context and a few people on YouTube who are doing it. The concept is to choose items to pan basedo n the various lightsaber colors from Star Wars: blue, green, red, purple, yellow, white, and black.

#RainbowPrideProjectPan
TIMELINE: March 1 - June 1
This is the project I'm currently doing, with a slightly modified date range. The concept is to choose products based on the various colors of the pride flag. You can find out more here.

SIX (or) SEVEN BY SUMMER
TIMELINE: start date varies, ends on June 21
Similar to six/ seven by spring, this can be done in a roulette style or in a finish-this-all style. (or both, if you're that daring). Six or seven items are chosen here.

FOUR BY JULY 4TH
TIMELINE: Start date varies, ends July 4th
I haven't seen this around much, but it's worth a shot if you need a short project to get a few items out of your collection or to try out a few items before making a decision. EyesOnAllison and her project pan group also started a 13 by July 4th project in honor of the 13 original American colonies.

(FINISH) FIVE BY FALL
Timeline: Start varies (usually summer), ends September 20
This project is another low-item project. Because of the usually slightly longer timeline, from what I've seen, the goal is often to finish up all the products before the Fall Equinox, rather than just to hit pan on them.

THIRTEEN BY HALLOWEEN
Timeline: Start varies (Often late summer), Ends on Halloween (October 31st)
There's a Reddit thread from last year that introduces this project in early-to-mid August, but the time frame can obviously be adapted somewhat. This is often done as a roulette style, from what I've seen.

NINE BY NEW YEARS
Timeline: late fall (October/ November), ends December 31
From what I've seen, this is often a quick clear-out kind of project at the end of the year.

YEARLONG PROJECTS

PAN THAT PALETTE
This project was created by Amber F on YouTube several years ago. The goal here is to finish every shade in a palette in 12 months. It's often one large palette, with 9 or more shades, but sometimes people do multiple palettes with 3-5 shades each. Originally, Amber F did an eyeshadow palette, but you can use whatever kind of palette you want - face palettes have also become common. Obviously, it gets adapted as needs and issues vary - sometimes the goal is to finish everything, sometimes the goal is to hit pan on everything, sometimes the timeline changes as the goals change, etc.

17 in 2017 (Adapted to the year - next year is 18 in 2018), 20+17 in 2017
There are several iterations of this project that I've seen. Sometimes the goal is to finish however many items in that period, but there's a variety of types of products (eyeliner, eyeshadow singles, highlighter, etc). I've also seen product-specific iterations of this - Project Polish (use up that many nail polishes in a year) and lipstick roulette being the main two. If you're daring, you could do a shorter 18 by 2018 project pan with the time frame being just a few months.

#365DaysofSamples
This is basically what it sounds like - an entire year dedicated to using up sample size products. This is probably best for folks who put in a lot of orders at Sephora (where you get three free samples with online orders) and are also subscribed to ipsy and Birchbox. I don't own enough smaples to justify doing this; if you are, give it a shot!

Other Resources

If you're interested in doing project pans, there's a few other places to check out.
Firstly, there are few great panning communities on Reddit. r/PanPorn is for pictures on makeup that's hit pan (that's also a hashtag on Instagram), and r/MakeupRehab is a good place to go for ideas on how to use up makeup and not necessarily buy a whole load more makeup in the process.
There are also a lot of project pan channels on Youtube. As previously mentioned, Amber F created the Pan that Palette challenge a few years back, when she finished the Urban Decay Naked Palette in 2014, and she's done a Pan that Palette every year since then. (This year, she's doing the original Too Faced Chocolate Bar).
Elle S is another YouTuber who does a lot of overlapping project pans - she's the one who introduced me to the rainbow pride project. She has a lot of other projects going on as well, including a lipstick roulette and #365daysofsamples.
Those are the main two project pan channels I watch, but there are plenty of other folks, including Hala Gabrealle and Jacquelyn Lovene, that don't do exclusively do project pans but still have plenty of content related to makeup and project pan. EyesOnAllison also does a lot of project pan content, and is part of a collab group for project panners. She'll often have links to the other folks in the group in any project pan collab updates.

That's all I have for today! What did I miss?
