2017 empties part 1

Part of project panning is an aspect of decluttering what you don't use and throwing out what you've used up. I'll be doing these three times a year - end of April, end of August, and end of December.
Be prepared for a whole wall of text and not a lot of pictures. Have fun!

January

DECLUTTER TOTAL: $84.55

Better than sex mascara, full size - I let go of this very early in the year. It was close to its expiration date anyway, and it was starting to make me feel weirdly headachy and ONLY on the days I was using it, so it was time to let it go.

NYX lip lingere liquid lipstick (beauty mark) - this was starting to get a little dry, but I was ready to part with it anyway. I'm not a fan of the formula and the shade was a bit too dark for me. I'd love to try a slightly lighter shade in a different formula, but this was, unfortunately, a miss for me.

Trestique Highlighter - This was the first of my project 10 pan to be finished. I was surprised how much I liked it, and I might get the full size once I work through a few more highlighters.

Makeup wipes (Beauty 360 eye makeup remover pads, 2 elf face wipes, CVS makeup wipes) - It's easy to go through wipes, since I use them pretty much every day. Kind of standard for decluttering things.

Nyx single shadow - dance the tides - This is a little sad, and I definitely want to purchase it again when I'm done with the Too Faced palette. This was a single shadow that perished when I was trying to de-pot it to a magnetic palette. I really liked the shade and formula, but I've got a lot of brown shades to work through first.

Beaute Basics taupe shadow - This shadow, unfortunately, met the same fate as the Nyx single shadow. I got this in an Ipsy bag, and I'm a little sad I didn't work with it more before I broke it. It definitely has a lot of product for the price, and I would consider repurchasing it when I'm done with more of the eyeshadows in my collection, but it's been discontinued.

ELF smoky palette - I got this in an ipsy bag as well, and this was not my favorite. I tried to de-pot the two or three shades I would actually use, and it didn't go too well. I wouldn't really use the palette to begin with, so I'm a little okay it's gone.

February

DECLUTTER TOTAL: $195

Seraphine Botanicals Blush - I liked this okay, as you recall from the first project pan updates, but I don't think I would repurchase - it's a bit too dark for me.

Too Faced Better than Sex sample mascara - This came in an ipsy bag just after I ordered the full size of the mascara. I like this formula well enough, but I would probably only get the travel size rather than the full size. Not my favorite mascara, because I can get a really good result from Wet n Wild for $2-3.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Sample - I really like this shadow primer; I'm working on the full size now. I might repurchase once I'm done with the full size and all my other primers.

Too Faced Born this Way Foundation (vanilla) - I got this on Reddit, and I thought it was my shade (when I ordered the full size Better than Sex, they sent a foundation sample and Vanilla seemed the best match). Unfortunately, it seemed to have oxidized with age and/ or sunlight, so it was orange on me. Would not spend full price on this.

Burt's Bees Face Wipes (cucumber sage) - This was good enough. They're makeup wipes - as long as they get stuff off my face, I'm fine.

Hey Honey Serum - This serum worked so well, but the full size is so pricey that i wouldn't buy it.

Make Beauty Highlighter - This highlighter is beautiful, but I wouldn't purchase the full size. At $34, it's a little pricey for what it is, and it's quite glittery, but I did enjoy it while I was using it.

Soo Ae Mask Duo - This duo came in an ipsy bag. They were pretty good, but I wouldn't repurchase. I'd probably spend a little more to get a When Mask from Sephora since I've had better results there.

Vanilla Sky Lip Liner - I said at the end of the project 10 pan that I might not repurchase lip liner in general. Since then, I've purchased two from Nyx to use with the butter lipsticks I still own. Neither of those liners is Vanilla Sky. I definitely see the value in lip liners now, but I don't have any neutrals that would need them.

Vanilla Bean Noel Body Scrub (Bath and Body Works) - This is a great body scrub from the holiday colection. I love it, but I don't need to exfoliate a lot in the summer.

When Snow Magic Masks (4-pack from Hautelook) - I really liked these masks - I did feel refreshed after. I might not get them individually, but if Hautelook has another 4-pack sale, I'd definitely get them then.

Ciate London Fierce Flicks Liquid Liner - This is black liquid liner - it's pretty good and a long-lasting formula, but it's also just a liquid liner. It's not the worst thing I've tried, but there's also a lot of black liquid liners to choose from. Ipsy sends me enough to not need to repurchase.

March

DECLUTTER TOTAL: $45.55

Nyx Auto Brow Pencil - this is the only brow product I've ever tied, and I already had a backup. I haven't tried anything else yet, but I really liked this formula. I don't pay enough attention to my brows to buy something expensive, so this was pretty good.

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream (Stockholm) - This was starting to dry out when I finally decluttered it. I really like the formula of the Soft Matte Lip Creams, but this shade wasn't working on my face.

Wet n Wild Contour Palette - This was a good product, but it was getting old and I don't contour enough to justify keeping it.

Wet n Wild Lipstick in 527b (fuchsia with blue pearl) - Like you saw with the rainbow project pan, pink lipstick is not my thing. This was closer to what I needed, but it's still not my thing. It also started tasting a little weird, so it was time for it to go.

Jersey Shore Coconut Balm - This came in one of my first ipsy bags. The formula is great, but I'm not a fan of coconut flavored things. I also have too many lip balms to justify keeping this.

Beauty 360 Face Wipes - Well, here's this month's face wipes. They're pretty good, but the elf ones are $3 (these are $5.50), and they work about the same, so I'd go with the elf ones in future.

Coastal Scents hot pot - Vibrant Blue - I realized that I never wear this, and I don't have anything that I could put this with into a look. Usually Coastal Scents is a really good formula, even for $1.95; however, this color doesn't work for me.

Wet n Wild Concealer Palette - This is a color-corrector palette, but I realize that I don't do color correcting at all. If I use concealer, the Nyx Full Coverage Concealer works fine for me.

First Aid Beauty Moisturizer Sample - I really liked this, so much so that I bought the full size. I only found out later that First Aid Beauty's Cruelty-Free status is questionable (they apparently can't guarantee that their sources don't test on animals), so I might not repurchase the full size again, but it definitely works on my face for now.

Wet n Wild black eyeliner - This was starting to irritate my eyes, even after I sharpened it, so it had to be decluttered.

Wet n Wild Pretty in Mink brown eyeliner - This was my holy grail eyeliner for a long time - when I started wearing makeup in college (just eyeliner most days as a freshman), I would just wear this. This started irritating my eyes as well, so I had to declutter it.

APRIL

DECLUTTER TOTAL: $146.55

Beauty 360 Makeup Wipes - hello, monthly makeup wipes. Didn't see you there.

Tarte Brighter Days highlighting moisturizer - This was a free sample from Sephora. Not my favorite thing - a little too highlighter-y and not enough moisture.

First Aid Beauty sampling duo - I loved these, but they came just before I owned the full size. So... it worked? It worked well for me.

Meet Matte Trimony sample in Matte Moscowitz - I've talked about this before. It's good, but not my favorite.

IT Cosmetics CC Cream Sample - I really like this, but the sample came in the shade Medium, which was too dark for me. That's the only gripe I have with this - once I'm done with my only other foundation, I might buy this full size.

Pur-Lisse Mud Mask - this was a sample from ipsy, and it was pretty good. It's not my favorite, but it definitely worked. In the future though, I'll probably just stick to the $4 exfoliating face wash.

Beauty 360 Eye Makeup Remover Bottle - This is a bottle of separate eye makeup remover - you put a little on a cotton round and wipe things off like that. It works well and smells like roses.

Wet n Wild Mega Protein Mascara - This is one of the better drugstore mascaras I've used. So far, it's one of the only ones I've regularly come back to. Will probably repurchase.

Benefit Porefessional Sample - This was another free Sephora sample, and I didn't get enough uses out of this to decide if it was worth it. I'm still wary, mostly because I don't need more face primers.

Wildfox Perfume Sample - Another Sephora sample! (I swear I only put in two Sephora orders this month!) I liked the smell, but I probably wouldn't buy the full size - it's just not the smell for me.

Lemon Pomegranate Fine Fragrance Mist - I finally finished it! Hooray! I still have a backup, but I'm glad for the progress.

Nyx V'amped up lip topper - This is a good product in theory, but it's not the product for me. I'ts supposed to darken the lipstick you're wearing, but I don't know if I was wearing it wrong, but it didn't work on my face. I wouldn't repurchase.

theBalm Hot Mama Blush sample - this came in an ipsy bag, and I bought the full size the following month. I realized (six months later) that I didn't need to hang onto the sample size of something I already own the full size of.

Physician's Formula Tone Adjusting Primer - Again with the primer thing. I never wear this. It's also a powder primer, which seems like it might not work for liquid formulas and seems too much powder if you're also using powder foundation and powder highlight. Not for me.

Birdland Paradise Strawberry Shortcake Gloss - This tastes amazing but I've had it for over a year and don't use it. If I ever become a gloss person, I will definitely buy it again.

Burt's Bees Dahlia Tinted Lip Balm - this was less of a 'declutter' product and more of an "I lost it and can't find it and probably would declutter it if I do" product. I didn't get a ton of use out of this, so I can't give a proper review.

Pur 4-in-1 light reflecting concealer - this was a pretty good concealer, but the $5 Nyx Full Coverage Concealer works fine for me, so I'm sticking with that instead of this $13 sample.

Milani Matte Orchid Lipstick - I'm sad this didn't work out, but it's a bit too bright for my face. I love the formula, though.

Wet n Wild Brow Wax - This is good, but I don't use it super often. Still, I somehow thought it was a good idea to get a backup. Like the Nyx Auto Brow, I use it just enough to justify having something, but I don't need a bunch of expensive brow things. Definitely would repurchase if I find it again.

Too Faced Hangover Primer Sample - This isn't my favorite primer; I know a lot of people have sworn by this isn the past, and I'm glad I got the chance to try it, but I don't wear enough primer to justify spending a lot of money on the full size.

Hanalei Aloe Gel - This works well, but I wouldn't necessarily buy the full size. It wasn't my favorite face thing, but it did work.

Elizabeth Mott Color is Bae Liquid Lipstick sample (Moxie Mauve) - I liked this enough to buy the full size - it's a soft enough pink that it actually works on my face, without being too pale barbie pink. This was drying out, and, now that I have the full size, it needs to be decluttered.

Elf Tone Adjusting Primer - I actually finished something! WHOO! But, again, wouldn't repurchase because I don't wear face primer enough when moisturizer would work just fine.

Shiro Cosmetics Eyeshadow Sample - He Who Must Not Be Named - I realize I never wear this. While it's a nice shade of gray, I wouldn't buy the full size because I don't wear gray eyeshadow.

Shiro Cosmetics Eyeshadow Sample - Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. - This is a mustard yellow shade; it worked surprisingly well on my eyes (I don't wear a lot of yellow eyeshadow) but I don't wear enough yellow to hang onto it. It's a great formula, just not my color.

If you've made it this far, congratulations! Thanks for reading!
